Tom O’Leary, originally from The Bronx, NY and a twenty three year resident of The Villages, Florida passed away on Tuesday, June 24th at Cornerstone Hospice.
Tom was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret O’Leary nee Kenny, brother of the late Brendan O’Leary and sister Kathleen O’Leary. Tom attended Manhattan Prep and Manhattan College on baseball scholarships, his first sports love before his later passion for golf.
Tom married Kathy, his childhood best friend and they had sixty two beautiful years together while raising three sons, Tom/Sue, Joe/Terry Sue, Scott/Donna. Tom served 20 years in the Marine Corps, retiring in 1982 as a Major in Cincinnati, OH. During those years our family travelled from one end of the country to the other. Tom served two tours in Viet Nam, where the only communication we had was through a daily letter – no phone calls, no FaceTime. He calculated that he was absent from our family for 5 of the 20 years he served his country. After Tom’s military service, he took a position with Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company for 15 years before again retiring and relocating to The Villages.
Tom was a devoted Pop Pop to seven grandchildren – Samantha, Shannon, Chris/Manon and Liam O’Leary, Andrew/Kara, Jared/Skylar, and CJ Lucke as well as three great grandchildren, Lilah, Declan and Rocco.
