A Wildwood man was arrested after driving with a suspended license and violating his probation.
An officer observed a silver Chevrolet Avalanche headed east on Huey Street around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A check of the registration revealed the owner, 42-year-old Purcell Lee Corbin, had a suspended driver’s license.

So, the officer turned on his overhead lights for a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop, and the siren was activated, as well. The vehicle still did not stop, and the officer changed the siren pattern in an effort to get it to do so, the report said.
Corbin turned on his emergency flashers and started waving his right arm. The vehicle continued until it turned left into the Cypress Commons, located at 775 Huey St. It then stopped in the parking lot of the apartment complex, the report said.
As the officer got out of his vehicle, Corbin started to drive away. The officer followed and continued to change the siren pattern to get him to stop again. He ultimately pulled into a parking space where the officer drew a handgun and commanded Corbin to show his hands, the report said.
Corbin opened the door and put his hands outside. The officer walked up and recognized him from his driver’s license photo. At that point, he was detained, the report said.
A check of Corbin’s driving history showed he had four suspensions on his driver’s license, all effective May 27. Two of those were failures to pay traffic fines, and the other two were child support. He was also on probation through Dec. 19 for possession of a controlled substance, the report said.
Corbin was subsequently arrested for driving while license suspended and violating his probation. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond.
