A woman facing a charge of vehicular homicide in a 2024 crash in The Villages has been rearrested in an unrelated insurance fraud case.
Rhonda Michelle Gilbert, 53, of Ocklawaha was booked Saturday night at the Lake County Jail on a charge of violating her probation. She was being held without bond.

Gilbert had been free on $40,000 following her arrest earlier this month on a warrant charging her with vehicular homicide in a crash which occurred Dec. 13 on State Road 44 at Lake Deaton Plaza and claimed the life of 85-year-old Michael Frank DeMulling of New York.

After she was placed on probation for 18 months in 2024 for filing a bogus insurance claim, Gilbert pleaded for early termination of her Lake County probation. This past June, in a hand-written letter to Lake County Judge Heidi Davis, Gilbert described the injuries she had suffered in the Dec. 13, including a broken hip, pelvis and broken fingers on her right hand. She complained that she was confined to a wheelchair and pleaded for early termination of her insurance fraud probation. In the letter, Gilbert neglected to mention that DeMulling died on Dec. 21 from injuries suffered in the Dec. 13 crash in which Gilbert was reportedly driving at 106 miles per hour.
