
John Thomas Lewis Jr., 74, of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 5, 1950, in Portsmouth, Ohio, John lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to family, country, and community.
John married the love of his life, Brenda Kay Riddlebarger, on August 11, 1984. Together, they shared over 40 years of marriage and raised five wonderful children: Sandra, Dawn, Rebecca, Wesley, and Spencer. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
After a dedicated career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, John retired in 2006 and later worked for Walmart until his retirement in 2024. A proud Marine veteran, John carried his service with honor and was deeply involved in veteran and community organizations. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, a Lifetime Veteran of Foreign Affairs member, and actively participated in the Wounded Warriors Project.
John’s passions included fishing, family card nights, watching Western shows, and cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed football and treasured the quality time spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Brenda Lewis (Riddlebarger); his brother Bob Lewis; daughters Sandra (Jay) Brosnan, Dawn (DeWayne) Chapman, Rebecca (Julio) DelValle; son Wesley Hall; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who held him dear.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John T. Lewis Sr. and Joann Murray; brothers Dave, Philip, Daryl, and Donnie Lewis; and his son Spencer D. Hall.
The Lewis family will hold a private gathering to celebrate John’s life and legacy.
John “Tom” Thomas Lewis Jr. will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, veteran, and friend — a man whose life touched many and whose spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
