Sarah J. Mistic – Mastalka

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Sarah Mistic – Mastalka on July 11, 2025, at the age of 89. Sarah’s radiant smile, generosity, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who had the joy of knowing her.

Beloved Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Friend, and Light to All Who Knew Her. Born in Canton, Illinois, Sarah was raised with a deep love for family-a guiding value that shaped her entire life. She brought joy to ordinary moments and lived with purpose, placing others before herself. She has lovingly been called “one of the greatest thieves of all time,” having stolen nearly every heart she encountered. Sarah had a rare and beautiful gift for making people feel at ease.

Whether through her warm words, easy laughter, or simply her presence, she offered comfort, connection, and strength. Her legacy is one of grace, humility, and love. Throughout her life, she found joy in many pursuits: riding bicycles, ice skating, golf, tennis, pickleball, watercolor painting, music, travel, reading, shopping, and sharing meals with loved ones. A lifelong learner and supporter of women’s education, Sarah was especially proud of her six decades of involvement with P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization)-following her grandmother and mother and introducing her daughter and friends to a sisterhood committed to advancing women’s educational opportunities.

As a P.E.O. Golden Girl, she served in numerous leadership roles, including President of her Decatur, Illinois chapter. She was a cherished member of Chapter IB in Ocala, Florida and a founding member of Chapter JK in The Villages, Florida.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Maurine; her sister, Anne; her son, Charles; and her beloved husbands, John and Fred.

She is survived by her husband Frank; her children, Martha (Ted) and David; her grandchildren, Tiffany (Braxton), Adam, and Andrew (Gianna); and her great-grandchildren, Landon, Brylee, Millie, and Marlo.

A private family service will be held in her memory, with a public Celebration of Life to follow September 13, in Summerfield, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sarah’s memory to P.E.O. at the link below: https://www.peointernational.org/make-a-gift/.

Sarah’s light continues to shine in the hearts of those she loved. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Online condolences may be made at www.beyersfhc.com.
