A man from Mexico was arrested after giving an officer an expired and disqualified license during a traffic stop.

An officer observed a gray Mercury passenger car traveling east on Crowntop Way around 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A check of tag revealed the registered owner, 40-year-old Juan Carlos Sanchez Luciano of Ocala, did not have a driver’s license.

The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle at the intersection with Wildlight Trail and spoke with Sanchez Luciano. He handed over an expired and disqualified North Carolina driver’s license from 2017 with the top right corner cut. He stated he was heading to work at a construction company, where he had been employed for about two years, the report said.

Sanchez Luciano then gave the officer another NC driver’s license, but this one had no legitimate markings or state identifiers, the report said. He also provided a Mexican Consular ID card. The officer asked him why he would hand over a license which he knew was “no good,” and he responded by saying, “Yeah, I don’t know, I know it’s not good.”

The native of Mexico was arrested on charges of possess/display disqualified driver’s license, drive with driver’s license expired more than six months and violate nonresident exemption driver’s license. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $450 bond.
