A Villager in a golf cart was arrested on a drunk driving charge after he was found at a recreation center.
The dispatch center had received a call regarding a man spotted at about 7:30 p.m. Friday walking around at the polo fields and struggling with his balance, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses also told deputies that they saw the man holding onto a wooden rail to steady himself.
Deputies found 64-year-old Orsburn Guy Clarkson of the Village of Glenbrook in a red golf cart parked near the tennis courts at the Saddlebrook Recreation Center.
The Kansas native had bloodshot eyes and it appeared he had been drinking. He admitted he’d had “too much sauce” and was planning to stay in his golf cart until “daylight comes,” the report said. He said he’d been drinking vodka. A 200ml bottle of Skol Premium vodka was found underneath the passenger seat of his golf cart. The bottle was about one-quarter full.
He refused to participate in field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.
He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
