A Lady Lake woman was arrested for assault after chasing her husband down the driveway with a baseball bat and shattering their SUV’s windshield.

Officers responded to a battery in progress at an undisclosed Lady Lake residence around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A neighbor advised that 28-year-old Sara Lucille Miles was running after her husband of nine years with a baseball bat. She did not hit him with it but did strike an SUV in the driveway.

Upon arrival, the officers spoke to Miles who stated she was in the front yard of her home when she got into a verbal altercation with her husband. She picked up a baseball bat that was already laying in the yard but claimed she never threatened him with it. He did not verbally threaten or hit her, either, the report said.

The husband advised that he was arguing with Miles over money when she got upset and grabbed the baseball bat. He tried to leave the premises, but she grabbed him by the front of his shirt in an attempt to throw him onto the ground. She swung the bat around him, and he was surprised she did not hit him with it, the report said.

He then got into the driver’s seat of the SUV to leave, to which she struck the windshield with the baseball bat. Law enforcement later observed fresh shards of glass sitting on the passenger seat. Miles told them the broken windshield was damaged prior to the altercation, the report said.

A witness said that she saw Miles running from the front door of the home with a baseball bat in hand, chasing the husband. She chased after him the whole length of the driveway to the SUV parked at the end. The witness was not sure if Miles struck the ground or the SUV, the report said.

Based on the witness and the husband’s statements, officers determined Miles was the primary aggressor. She was subsequently placed under arrest and informed them she had “something not good” on her person. A search of her pockets yielded three cut straws with white residue and a small off-white cylindrical container with 3.1 grams of methamphetamine, the report said.

Miles was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (domestic), possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to Lake County Jail to be held without bond.
