An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested for driving without a license after being stopped near Meggison Road in The Villages.

An officer spotted 20-year-old Reynel Estrada Morales driving a white Volkswagen Jetta on Marsh Bend Trail around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A check of the tag showed the registered owner had a suspended license, so he stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of Warm Springs Avenue, just west of the Meggison Road intersection.

The officer approached the vehicle from the passenger side and asked Estrada Morales for his license. He instead handed over a Mexican ID, saying he did not have a valid driver’s license. This proved he was not in fact the registered owner, the report said.

When asked how long he had been living in Florida, Estrada Morales stated around one year. A subsequent check of Estrada Morales’ information through dispatch revealed there was no record of him having a license. Other law enforcement databases showed the same thing, the report said.

Estrada Morales was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. The native of Mexico was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $150 bond.
