A Villager’s son will have to answer in court after allegedly skip-scanning merchandise in a self-checkout lane at a local Walmart.
Brian Ader, 40, who lives with his mother in the Village of Amelia, was detained by store personnel Sept. 5 at the Walmart in Leesburg after he failed to pay for $43.75 in merchandise, according to an incident report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Ader went to the sports goods department and concealed fishing lures in a tackle box. His suspicious activity attracted the attention of a loss prevention officer. The officer watched as Ader went through a self-checkout lane and paid for some merchandise, but failed to pay for other items.
After he was detained, Ader said he was “sorry” and felt “embarrassed,” because he had enough money to pay for the items. He said he simply wanted to go “fishing.”
Ader was issued a notice to appear Sept. 30 in Lake County Court.
