A Wildwood woman was arrested after admitting to jumping out of a vehicle and hiding behind bushes to avoid being jailed for a warrant.

An officer spotted 22-year-old Dakota Brooke Williams and her white 2016 Toyota Corolla at the 7-Eleven gas pumps, located on County Road 462, at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A record check revealed she had an active Marion County warrant for dealing in stolen property and falsification of ownership to a pawn broker.

The officer watched as the vehicle left the gas station at high speeds, raising suspicion about Williams, her knowledge of the warrant and trying to create distance. He turned on his emergency lights for a traffic stop, and the vehicle suddenly turned from County Road 462 to Northeast 43rd Way. While making this turn, the officer saw the vehicle shift left, seemingly to make a quicker right turn, the report said.

The vehicle ultimately stopped in the parking lot of Fort Knox Self Storage, located at 4115 E CR 462. The officer approached the vehicle to find three males. There was no front seat passenger, and two of the males sat in the back. The officer thought this was odd, as most people would take the front seat before filling the back, the report said.

A few minutes later, another officer came to the scene as backup and found Williams lying on the ground face down just behind some small bushes to the southeast. She was promptly detained and admitted to jumping out of the vehicle and hiding, the report said.

Williams was subsequently arrested on charges of resist officer (obstruct without violence). She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond and where Marion County placed a hold on her for the warrant.
