A restaurant in the Villages was evacuated after a report of a stove fire.
The Villages Public Safety Department responded at 11:18 a.m. Thursday to a report of a fire at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery at 905 Bichara Blvd. at La Plaza Grande. The original report indicated there were “flames and smoke showing from behind a stove.”
Firefighters quickly discovered that the fire had been extinguished prior to their arrive. After inspecting the premises, the fire crew found a gas leak. Firefighters secured and locked out the gas meter.
A week ago, the Perkins was ordered closed by a health inspector who roaches and eggs that were broken and cracked. The inspector issued a “stop sale” order for the bad eggs.
