A Villager has lost her driver’s license after crashing her car while intoxicated near Costco at Buffalo Ridge Plaza.

Sheron Lea Owen, 64, of the Village of Rio Grande, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. She will lose her driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of Community Service.

She was at the wheel of a white Nissan Sentra at about 6 p.m. July 18 and driving on the wrong side of the road, triggering multiple 911 calls, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Her vehicle struck a blue Ford Mustang and she fled the scene.

A deputy soon found Owen’s vehicle and noted it had fresh damage to the passenger side. It appeared she had been drinking and she became “belligerent.” The driver of the Ford Mustang identified Owen as the driver who had collided with her vehicle.

A half-empty bottle of Fireball Whiskey was found in Owen’s vehicle.

“I don’t drink!” Owen insisted.

She provided breath samples that registered .121 and .115 blood alcohol content.
