A Lady Lake woman was arrested for battery after allegedly smacking her boyfriend and scratching him with her toenails.
The boyfriend of 38-year-old Shannon Smith fled from his Lady Lake apartment to the police department after a physical altercation between the two around 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

When speaking with officers, he advised that he needed someone to talk to about his living situation with Smith. They had been dating for about four months, and she moved into his place a month ago, the report said.
The couple had gotten into an argument about her six-year-old son at 11 p.m. the night before. Smith was upset and swung both of her hands at the boyfriend’s face. She hit him with the right but missed the left. Still, the blow scratched the middle of his forehead and his left eyebrow, the report said.
Smith also had his virtual gaming glasses and would not give them back. He saw them on the bed next to her and went to grab them, but she grabbed him instead. She used her body, standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds, to overpower him, bringing them both to the bedroom floor, the report said.
The boyfriend recalled her kicking at him with her feet and hitting him multiple times to include his face. He believed the scratches on his face may have been from her kicking it and possibly cutting him with her toenails, the report said.
He then grabbed the keys to a vehicle and went to leave the apartment. Smith tried to snatch them from his left hand, making another scratch on the top of his hand and a swollen pinky finger. He ultimately left on foot to contact law enforcement, the report said.
Officers subsequently responded to the apartment and spoke with Smith. She advised that a verbal altercation happened over the boyfriend saying her son was a liar. She admitted it turned physical when he hit her on the right side of her face. There was no visible swelling, red marks or open wounds on her, though, the report said.
She believed his facial wounds came from when she was on the ground kicking him. She did not have fingernails that could have scratched him like that, but her toenails were sharp enough to cause them. She also stated she tried to get the keys from him because the vehicle belonged to her, not him, the report said.
Smith was arrested for simple battery (domestic) and transported to Lake County Jail. The native of Connecticut was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
