Robert Young, Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, and esteemed member of his community, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 75 in Bushnell, Florida. Born on July 10, 1950, in Butler, Pennsylvania, Bob was the beloved son of Robert Young, Sr. and Vivian Young, both of whom preceded him in death.
Throughout his life, Bob exemplified the values of service, family, and friendship. He and his wife, Deborah Young, shared an enduring bond that lasted over 55 years, having been married since February 16, 1970. Their marriage was a testament to love and commitment, and together they raised two wonderful children, Robert Young III and Brooke Finkley, both of whom carry forward the legacy of their father’s kindness and strength. Affectionally known as “Papa”, Bob dearly loved his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bob was not only a family man but also a proud veteran who served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His military service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and honor, which he later channeled into his active involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10137, where he achieved the ranks of Post Commander and District Commander. His commitment to his fellow veterans and the community was unwavering; he often dedicated his time to helping others, whether through community service or simply lending a hand to a neighbor in need.
In addition to his military and community service, Bob made his mark as a skilled repairman and boat captain, spending countless hours on the water, which was one of his greatest joys. As an avid hunter and fisherman, Bob cherished the outdoors, and he often shared these passions with his family and friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Bob is remembered for his friendly nature and caring spirit. He had an innate ability to make friends anywhere he went. His legacy lives on through his surviving family members, including his dear wife, Debbie Young; his children, Rob Young and Brooke Finkley; his brothers, Ron Young and Rex Young; and his sister, Virginia Watson. Each of them will carry his memory in their hearts, inspired by his example of love and service.
Bob’s viewing will take place on December 4, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Purcell Funeral Home, followed by an 11:30 service at the Florida National Cemetery. His celebration of life will be held at the VFW Post 10137 immediately after the service. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Bob are invited to join in honoring his memory and the profound impact he had on so many.
