U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on a Nicaraguan who was arrested with marijuana in his Mercedes.

A deputy noticed 24-year-old Angel Ramon Torres of Tavares driving a black Mercedes with unlit rear registration lights in Webster at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Due to this, a traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of South Market Boulevard and Southeast First Avenue.

While speaking with Torres, the deputy smelled raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. Torres stated he did not have a medical marijuana card and denied having hemp or CBD products with him. The deputy told him a search was still to follow, and he started reaching toward the center console as if something was in there, the report said.

The deputy then found a clear plastic baggage of marijuana and a metal grinder with green residue in said center console. The contents of the baggie were obviously less than the felony amount of 20 grams, the report said.

Torres was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams) and drug equipment (possess or use). He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where ICE put a hold on him.
