A Wildwood woman was arrested after walking away from a deputy and punching him when he tried talking to her about a stolen vehicle.

A deputy responded to a residence on Heritage Boulevard in Wildwood regarding a stolen vehicle around 9:10 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to his arrival, dispatch advised that 41-year-old Susan Jean Herr was a suspect in the case.

Upon arrival, the deputy met with the owner of the stolen vehicle who stated Herr brought it back to his residence and left. He no longer wished to prosecute but advised that the vehicle was parked next door at Herr’s place. He still gave the deputy the keys and added Herr needed help for her mental health. He also asked if the deputy would walk next door and talk to her, the report said.

When walking over to Herr’s residence, the deputy saw her walking from the backyard to the front yard. He asked her to stop and talk to him, to which she walked to a parking lot just north of the residence and pulled on someone’s door handle. The door was locked, so she proceeded to walk back toward Heritage Boulevard, the report said.

Herr then went up to the front door of another residence, opened the door and walked inside. The homeowner walked out of the house to say she knew Herr, but she was not allowed to be in the home. She wanted her out of the house without trespassing her, the report said.

The deputy subsequently commanded Herr to come out. She instead lunged out of the doorway at him and punched him with her right hand. He blocked her strike with his left arm and used a taser to get her to comply, the report said.

Herr ran away from him after being tased, back into the residence to avoid being arrested. She was then tased again and handcuffed, the report said.

She was ultimately arrested on charges of resist officer (flee/elude law enforcement officer with lights/siren active), battery on office/firefighter/EMT/etc., and resist officer with violence. She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $15,000.

Herr was also arrested in April after admitting to drinking wine prior to a crash in The Villages.
