A Villager who was driving a golf cart on the sidewalk was arrested at Walgreens.
James Rickey Sampson, 78, who lives at 1740 Hilton Head Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages, was driving a golf cart at about 1 p.m. Thursday on the sidewalk along U.S. Hwy. 441 when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop. Sampson pulled over at the Walgreens at 1581 Bella Cruz Drive.
The Detroit native claimed he had left Planet Fitness in Summerfield and was heading to Walgreens to get a prescription filled.
A check revealed that Sampson’s driver’s license had been suspended due to a drunk driving conviction.
He was arrested on a felony charge of driving while license suspended. He was also ticketed for improperly operating a golf cart. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
