A Villager who was stopped for speeding and got “belligerent” with law enforcement officers has been ordered to pay fines and court costs in the case.

Karen Ann Pizzurro, 75, of the Village of Hadley, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to charges of resisting arrest and driving while license suspended. She was ordered to pay $846 in fines and court costs.

She was driving a white Honda when she was pulled over for speeding at about 4 p.m. Nov. 14 in the vicinity of Morse Boulevard and Stillwater Trail, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

During a traffic stop, deputies learned that Pizzurro’s license had been suspended several months earlier. Pizzurro became “irate” and demanded that another deputy be called to the scene. When the second deputy arrived, Pizzurro lunged at the deputy  who had made the original traffic stop. She was handcuffed and “began shouting multiple profanities.” She initially refused to walk to a patrol car.

When Pizzurro, who was arrested in 2015 for shoplifting at Walmart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza, was being booked at the Sumter County Detention Center, she refused to cooperate with detention staffers.
