There are currently 3.8 million non-affiliated voters in Florida. They represent over 27 percent of the electorate and are currently barred from voting in primary elections.

Florida Open Primaries is an organization formed to change that.  They urge both major political parties in Florida to open their primaries to independent voters as 14 other states have done.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the Fruitland Park Library, John Marvin, a member of the Leader’s Table of Open Primaries, will address the League of Women Voters of The Villages/Tri-County Florida on the voting rights of independent voters.

The LWV will hear from a speaker on the topic of the primary elections in Florida in which millions are barred from participating. The public is welcome at the event.
