The Villages Public Safety Department quickly arrived on the scene and put out the fire, but it proved to be stubborn.

“Firefighters were able to rapidly extinguish the flames; however, due to the nature of lithium-ion batteries, the battery pack experienced several instances of re-ignition, which is a known hazard associated with these types of power systems. Crews remained on scene to monitor the vehicle and ensure the fire remained under control,” said Deputy Chief of Operations Robert Ramage.

Personnel stood by until a tow company arrived and safely removed the golf cart from the area, he said.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

The Village Public Safety Department reminds residents that lithium-ion battery fires can behave differently than traditional fires and may require extended monitoring due to the potential for re-ignition.

In early 2025, a lithium-ion battery fire burned up a golf cart near the Sarasota Executive Golf Course.
