A Villager was arrested after he allegedly struck a lady golfer in a dispute at a starter shack.

Mark Rhodes, 63, who lives in the Village of Calumet Grove, is facing a felony charge of aggravated battery of a person over the age of 65 after the incident involving a 79-year-old woman who had been in a golf cart Sunday afternoon near the starter shack at the El Diablo Executive Golf Course, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The lady was hoping to tee off and asked Rhodes to move his golf cart. Her request prompted an argument.

Rhodes began to move his golf cart and the woman started to drive her golf cart in the opposite direction. He reached out and struck her in the face with his fist. This caused her eyeglasses to break.

An employee at the starter shack provided an account of the incident to law enforcement.

Rhodes was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. The Paris, Tenn. native was released after posting $3,500 bond.
