A Jacksonville man was arrested after lying about his name and the brass knuckles in his possession.

A deputy spotted a red Honda motorcycle without a license plate disabled in the roadway on County Road 225 in Wildwood around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Nearby stood 32-year-old Daniel Scott Brogden, who stated the motorcycle had broken down.

When asked why there was no license plate, Brogden advised that he had bought the motorcycle a few days prior. He was then detained for obstructing the flow of traffic and asked for his driver’s license. But he refused to hand it over or say his name, ultimately giving a false name, the report said.

Brogden could not provide a Social Security number or address to back up his claim. Additionally, the deputy found a match for the false name, and the driver’s license photo for this person did not look like Brogden. As such, he was arrested, the report said.

A subsequent search of his person yielded a wallet with his ID card inside. The deputy also found brass knuckles that Brogden claimed were a belt buckle, the report said.

A check of Brogden’s criminal history followed, revealing he had 14 felony guilty convictions, the report said. He also had a warrant out of Lake County for possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon, tramadol and buprenorphine.

Brogden was arrested on charges of false ID given to law enforcement officer and possession of weapon or ammo by convicted felon. The North Carolina native was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond. She also had a hold placed on her due to the Lake County warrant.
