An Ocklawaha woman was arrested for battery after allegedly clawing at the father of her infant for taking away her alcohol.

A deputy responded to a physical disturbance between 34-year-old Sara Mae Scribner and the father of her infant daughter at their home on Southeast 174th Court in Ocklawaha around 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Her partner advised that she struck him several times during an argument.

He explained that Scribner was heavily intoxicated, and he was trying to put their infant to bed while she kept drinking and causing an argument. She then went into the kitchen, grabbed another bottle of alcohol and headed toward their daughter’s room. Believing she would harm herself or their daughter, he took the bottle from her, the report said.

As her partner proceeded to the sink to pour out the alcohol, Scribner struck him in the head multiple times. He backed away from her, and she reached her hand up toward his mouth to claw his lip. She knew hitting him in the head did not hurt him, so she went for his mouth or eyes to cause damage, the report said.

He was able to push her away long enough to walk outside and call emergency services. She went toward the spare room, and they stayed separate until law enforcement got there. Upon arrival, the deputy observed the partner’s mouth was cut open and bleeding on the right side, the report said.

At that point, the deputy escorted Scribner to the back of a patrol car to safely interview her. She stated she was mad at her partner for taking her alcohol because he “shoved” her. She started hitting him to get him away from her, and she separated from him in the back room afterward, the report said.

The deputy noticed she was highly intoxicated during this conversation. He determined Scribner’s partner intended to stop her from drinking more alcohol so she would not become a danger to herself or their infant. The report noted she had battered him previously, as well.

Scribner was arrested on a charge of simple battery (battery) and booked at Marion County Jail. She was released after posting $2,000 bond.
