A sex offender in Wildwood was arrested after a Facebook post revealed he had not fulfilled several registration requirements.

Brent Mitchell-Wayne Firebaugh, 40, was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a minor on April 21, 2006, in Charles County, Maryland, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He last registered as a sex offender in Sumter County on Jan. 2, signing documentation where he acknowledged that he must disclose any email addresses and correct registration information.

But on Monday, a detective searched Firebaugh on social media and found his business, FRE Performance Mobile Repair, on Facebook. The cover photo listed him as the owner and provided an email address through which he could be contacted. A check of his sexual offender registration revealed he had not reported the Facebook account, business or email account, the report said.

Firebaugh last posted on the account in October, meaning he had the opportunity to disclose this information during his latest registration in January. Due to this, a deputy responded to his home at 8816 NW 21st St., Wildwood, to arrest him for violating his statutorily required obligations as a registered sexual offender, the report said.

The DC native was charged with two counts of sex offender violation (fail to report email address or internet identifiers) and sex offender violation (provide false registration info). He was then booked at the Sumter County Detention Center without bond.
