A Wildwood man was arrested after being stopped for speeding by over 50 miles per hour in The Villages.
An officer spotted a vehicle speeding northbound in the area of State Road 25 and County Road 466A around 1:25 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. The driver, 32-year-old Gerquon Lavares Thomas, was going 102 mph in a 50-mph zone, all while passing other vehicles and putting them in danger.
Due to this, the officer stopped Thomas near State Road 25 and Longview Avenue in Lady Lake. Thomas advised that he was traveling fast because he had a family member he was trying to get to at a hospital in Ocala, the report said.
Thomas was arrested on charge of dangerous excessive driving (excess of 50 mph or greater). He was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
