A pair from Orlando landed behind bars after they were found to be in possession of cocaine and marijuana after a traffic stop in the southern end of The Villages.

A deputy spotted a silver passenger car without working tag lights headed east on County Road 470 in Sumterville around 10:55 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The occupants, 25-year-old Latoria Laydrelle Lee and 46-year-old Don Cornelious Wiggins, were seen crossing over solid white lines and were stopped at U.S. 301 and Central Parkway.

Lee, the driver, told the deputy that she did not have a valid driver’s license. She was only behind the wheel because the registered owner, Wiggins, was too intoxicated to drive. Wiggins knew she did not have a license, but he let her drive anyway, the report said.

A K-9 unit arrived on scene a few minutes later and positively alerted to the smell of narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search yielded a blue Disney backpack with a plastic bag of fentanyl residue. It also contained mail and a wallet with Lee’s name on it, meaning it likely belonged to her, the report said.

Wiggins was already under arrest for letting Lee drive and was put in the back of a patrol vehicle. A deputy later found cocaine directly behind his buttocks in the backseat, the report said.

As for Lee, she made it to the Sumter County Detention Center before she mentioned a baggie of marijuana on her person. She also produced a plastic tube containing multiple brown marijuana cigarettes, the report said

Lee was charged with drug equipment (possess or use), operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams). She is currently in jail with bond set at $2,250.

Wiggins was charged with permiting an unauthorized person to drive and possession of cocaine. He was being held without bond.
