
William Mitchell, 87, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Lady Lake, Florida. Born on June 30, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bill lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep love for family and community.
Following his honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, Bill pursued a career in law enforcement. He served with distinction for 16 years as a member of the Meriden Police Department until an injury brought his time on the force to an early conclusion.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsie Mitchell; and his sister, Floss Dahm.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Sandra “Sandy” Mitchell; his two sons, Eric Mitchell of Windermere, Florida, and Kurt Mitchell and his wife, Janice of West Hartford, Connecticut; and one grandson, Chase Mitchell.
May William “Bill” Mitchell’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy of service, kindness, and zest for life will be cherished forever.
A Memorial Service will be held May 21, 2026, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Augustine Wildlife Reserve, 5190 Farm Creek Rd., Saint Augustine, FL 32092, in his honor.
