Along with Viet Nam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, we can proudly add Iran to our “win” list. We know because Trump said we won. And we have the specifics to prove it.
We opened the Strait of Hormuz—which wasn’t closed until after we attacked. And where ships could travel safely and without tolls prior to our attack, Iran threatened to extract a fee for each ship navigating what is now the dire Strait. Big win. Woo hoo!
And now we’re doing what Iran threatened to do; blockading ships resulting in oil prices continuing on their sky high path. But somehow that’s a win.
We also learned a lot about our allies. We asked for their help that Trump said we didn’t need but will remember they didn’t give. Now I have a headache.
We said we wanted, and then we didn’t want, regime change. What we got was a new head of the old regime who is younger and more conservative than the old one. And the new guy is really pissed at us because, among other things, we assassinated his father. That, no doubt will make him so much easier to deal with. Not that diplomacy was ever an option. Mission accomplished.
Then there’s the Iranian Navy and their other military we had “obliterated” just two weeks prior, suddenly coming back to life attacking U.S. bases, Israel, and other countries in the Middle East. All that money and for what?
Nothing. Except for the 13 Americans killed and over 100 wounded. Not to mention, according to Reuters, deaths from the following countries: Iran, Lebanon, The West Bank, Iraq, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, Saudi Arabia,
Bahrain, Oman, and France. Oh. Forbes estimates the war is costing U.S. taxpayers $1 billion a day—at least. All that money. For what. Nothing. And let us not forget the heartfelt humanitarian Easter morning threat by the FIFA Peace Prize recipient, to annihilate a civilization sending the 6,000-year-old culture back to the dark ages.
Dire Straits wasn’t just a rock group. It’s also the definition of a very serious situation. How did we get here? It’s not complicated. We have a demented, narcissistic president who, given the choice, would name the Strait of Hormuz after himself, declare victory (again) and go home. Trump has lied, vacillated, threatened and retreated, committed international war crimes, and is responsible—along with his sidekick Netanyahu—for thousands of deaths in the Middle East. Bibi finally found an American president willing to be equally complicit in war crimes. They also have one other thing in common: the need to stay in power to escape punishment for criminal convictions.
Shame on us. Money for Nothing. Indeed.
