An uninsured motorist told a police officer she can’t afford coverage during a traffic stop in Oxford.
Donna Darlene Doxtater, 64, of Summerfield, was driving a white 2011 Nissan passenger car at about 8 p.m. Sunday on County Road 466 and was traveling in excess of the posted 40 miles per hour speed limit, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Radar confirmed she was driving 52 mph.

During a traffic stop, Doxtater admitted she did not have insurance and said she “was unable to afford coverage.” The New York native also said she had relocated in February and had failed to update her address with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles within the 30-day requirement. The officer discovered Doxtater’s license has been suspended.
The officer also detected the “strong odor of burnt marijuana” coming from the interior of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana in the driver’s side door pocket, a metal smoking pipe, a white container which held marijuana, and a Yocan Ziva Smart Vaporizer which had a cartridge with THC.
She was arrested on charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $3,500 bond.
