A Lady Lake woman was arrested after allegedly attacking a teen and smashing her phone.
A deputy responded to a physical disturbance involving 31-year-old Mariah Teresa Santos at Lake Sumter Apartments on County Road 466 at Cherry Lake Road around 8:20 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A 15-year-old female victim advised that just prior to calling 911, she was sitting on the staircase of the apartment when she got into a confrontation with another juvenile and that juvenile’s mother, Santos. The latter started yelling at her, ran up the staircase and ripped her $1,100 phone from her hand. She proceeded to smash it on the ground, causing significant damage and limiting its function, the report said.
Santos also grabbed the juvenile victim and held her down against the concrete stairs. She suffered visible red abrasions on her forearm, the report said.
The juvenile victim was able to show law enforcement a video of the altercation that corroborated her testimony. It showed Santos aggressively running up the stairs and reaching out to the juvenile victim. There was an obvious physical altercation, which rapidly moved the phone around before the video cut out, the report said.
On Sunday evening, the deputy returned to the apartment complex to speak with Santos about an unrelated matter. She made comments regarding the altercation on Friday, referring to the juvenile victim. This placed her at the incident location, the report said.
Santos was subsequently arrested on charges of battery and criminal mischief ($1,000 or more). The New Jersey native was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $3,000 bond.
