Wildwood commissioners made a $308,021 payment Monday night to Kingdom Construction, the latest installment on the massive Millennium Park $12-million upgrade project.
The payment comes two weeks after commissioners questioned 20 change orders that boosted the cost of the project.
In early 2025, they accepted the company’s lowest bid of $10.7 million even though staff recommended another bid that was $3.5 million higher.
The upgrade is the most costly recreation project in Wildwood’s history.
Millennium Park along Powell Road is the city’s largest park and also home to the Wildwood Community Center.
About 65 percent complete, the project involves demolition and replacement of paved surfaces, including parking areas, roads, cart paths and concrete sports pads.
Sports fields will be upgraded and a covered basketball court will be built along with tennis courts, a racquetball court and restrooms. Electrical equipment will be installed and sewer and water lines will be replaced.
Two weeks ago, commissioners questioned a $165,689 change order that involved increased column pad sizes for the basketball gym foundation to meet steel building requirements.
