The Marion County Sheriff’s Office helicopter assisted in the arrest of a Summerfield man accused of holding a pregnant woman at gunpoint.
A five-and-a-half-months pregnant woman was walking toward her kitchen when she saw 32-year-old Carlos Montalvo pointing a black handgun at her from behind the bar of her Marion County home at 1:20 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

He wore all black, including sunglasses and a sweatshirt with the hood up, and he did not say anything to her. He had recently been in custody at the Marion County Jail for violating an injunction of protection, during which the woman watched his with dog, Kodak. She was scared until someone knocked at the front door, and Montalvo left with the dog, the report said.
Another resident in the home was also walking toward the kitchen at this time and saw Montalvo. He pointed the gun at her, too, without saying anything. Once he walked out, she saw a newer black Kia Sedan back into the driveway. Another woman, later identified as the woman protected by the injunction, got into the vehicle before it drove away, the report said.
Deputies later responded to the scene and observed a large dog door at the back of the residence. The door was covered in grey duct tape that looked like it had been tampered with. They learned it had been taped shut to prevent the dog from going outside, the report said.
Further investigation determined that the active domestic violence injunction case prevented Montalvo from communicating with the subject of protection. This injunction is not expiring. Additionally, he had been served an extreme risk protection order on March 9 that prohibited him from possessing or receiving a firearm. This does not expire until March 9, 2027, the report said.
Due to this, deputies responded to his home on Southeast 145th Place in Summerfield on Monday morning to find him. They approached the residence from the rear and spoke with the subject of the injunction in the driveway. She claimed Montalvo was not there and gave law enforcement permission to check the home for him, the report said.
As she walked to the front gate, Aviation Unit “Air 1,” an MCSO helicopter, flew overhead and spotted Montalvo hiding behind a shed on the property. He then ran toward the east side of the residence, where he was spotted by a deputy. He ultimately walked to the front of the property and surrendered himself to law enforcement, the report said.
Montalvo was arrested on two counts of contempt of court (violate injunction of protection for domestic violence), armed burglary, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and risk protection order (possess/purchase of firearm or ammo). The New York native was booked at the Marion County Jail without bond.
