Two children and a 21-year-old man were taken to the hospital after the latter crashed into a school bus during a medical episode.
The 21-year-old male driver of a sedan was headed south on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Summerfield around 9 a.m. Monday, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. He approached Southeast 176th Street as a school bus with 27 students onboard stopped at a red light in the left turn lane.
The driver of the sedan then experienced a medical episode and swerved into the left turn lane, colliding with the school bus’s right side near the entrance to Spruce Creek South. After the impact, both vehicles moved onto the grass shoulder south of the crash site.
Two students and the driver of the sedan were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The 66-year-old female bus driver escaped injury.
