Two Villagers were arrested after allegedly attacking a suspected flag stealer.

Joseph McKee, 83, of the Cottages at Summerchase, was driving a golf cart Wednesday evening when he began “abruptly and aggressively” chasing another man in another golf cart in the vicinity of the Village of Belle Aire, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. McKee suspected the man had been stealing American flags over the previous two weeks. The American flags had been placed along the multi-modal path.

Both men were arrested on felony charges of battery. They were both booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after each posted $2,500 bond.
