William Vernon King II of Summerfield, Florida, passed away on May 4, 2026, at the age of 93.

William “Bill” was born in Norfolk, VA on April 30, 1933. He was raised in Norfolk, Virginia and Miami, Florida. He married Elizabeth Long on April 7, 1956, in Miami, Florida and they shared 70 beautiful years together.

He served in the US Navy and is a veteran of the Korean War. He was a proud Metro-Dade Firefighter in Miami, Florida for 27 years, achieving the rank of Captain when he retired in 1989. He was an avid bicyclist, swimmer and golfer. He continued to bike and swim until he was 90 years old. He was a lover of music, family gatherings, and golf cart rides with his beloved dogs he treated as children.

William was preceded in death by his father, William Benjamin King who was KIA in World War II and his mother Maude Duncan Perry.

William is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Long King, son William V King III and his wife Terry, daughter Melissa Davis and her husband Charlie, grandchildren Christi Baldissero (Robert), Colleen King, Delaney Davis, Carly Davis and great grandchildren Raylan and Westen Baldissero.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Janet Van Marlen and those that called him Uncle, Lori Van Marlen, Lynette Tilden and Frank Van Marlen.

He was a friend to all, had a positive outlook on life and always had a kind word to say.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, located at 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, Florida 32162.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102 Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
