A Tampa man was arrested with a meth pipe after dozing off behind the wheel at a Love’s Travel Stop in Sumter County.
A concerned citizen called the police regarding 57-year-old Juan Antonio Diaz dozing off in the driver’s seat of a white truck at Love’s Travel Stop, 2615 W C 48, Bushnell, around 4:40 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy later spoke to Diaz, who was asked to show his driver’s license. As he reached into a black handbag, a cylindrical glass pipe with off-white residue stuck out of the bag. A subsequent search determined the residue was methamphetamine, and a black scale within the same bag also had this residue, the report said.
During the investigation, Diaz complained of difficulty breathing and requested EMS. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, and probable cause was established to arrest him at a later time, the report said.
That day came on Monday, when he was found in Webster and charged with drug equipment (possess or use). He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $2,500.
