An unlicensed driver from Guatemala was arrested after crashing into a fuel tanker at Wawa.

An officer was parked at Wawa at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466 when he saw a blue pickup truck strike a fuel tanker that was stopped delivering fuel at 2:15 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The driver, 32-year-old Glendy Catarina Lopez, stopped at a curb before getting out to approach the fuel tanker.

The officer informed dispatch of the situation and began a crash investigation. He started by asking Lopez for her identification, prompting to hand over a Guatemalan ID card instead of a driver’s license. A check of her driving history revealed a previous citation for driving without a valid license in Leesburg, the report said.

Lopez then admitted to having been cited for careless driving and no valid license in Leesburg about 10 years prior. She was unable to obtain a license because she was illegally in the country, where she had been for the past 15 years. She currently worked in food service at Cody’s Roadhouse, and her children attended school, the report said.

The native of Guatemala was arrested on charge of no valid license (never had one). She was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
