To the Editor:
I believe that singling out individual groups, races, religions and orientations of every kind needs to stop.
Honorable service recognition for individuals, groups or organizations that have demonstrated true sacrifice and loss for our country and communities, or accomplishments of community groups or organizations (such as school athletes with major wins or achievements), should be celebrated and recognized.
To recognize a group for personal preferences or lifestyles serves as a catalyst for division and not unity. Let’s remember that 1969 was years ago and was an accomplishment for that part of society, but it does not need recognition, and there is no adverse reaction to allowing continued assimilation to move us toward one nation of equality. The LGBTQ community has achieved a strong presence in the U.S. and our local communities.
Let’s move forward as one nation and be proud of all without segregation by recognition.
