A resident of the Village of Buttonwood was arrested following a domestic altercation at her home.
Donna Jean Adkins, 62, was taken into custody Thursday by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.

The native of Newport News, Va., told deputies that the woman she allegedly attacked has suffered from alcoholism for years. According to an arrest report, someone had brought the victim to Adkins’ home, where the two women became engaged in a loud verbal dispute.
The woman began shouting profanities, prompting Adkins to grab her by the face and cover her mouth so a person in another room could not hear the “vulgar” argument.
The woman told deputies that Adkins also stepped on her back during the altercation, though law enforcement could not substantiate that claim at the scene.
Deputies determined Adkins was the primary aggressor after she admitted to putting her hand over the other woman’s face.
Adkins was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery and booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
