Wildwood’s $150-million wastewater treatment plant is taking shape on the city’s west side.
Deputy utilities director Jason Martin presented a slide show on plant construction progress Monday to city commissioners.
What he described as “a massive amount of conduit and pipe” has been installed at the site. Two circulating pools are nearing completion and a temporary DAVCO wastewater processing facility will become operational later this summer.

The temporary facility will boost Wildwood’s processing capability by a million gallons until plant construction is completed in 2027.
When the plant is completed, Wildwood will have daily wastewater processing capacity of 5.5 million gallons.
Earlier this year, the city issued $90 million in revenue bonds to help pay for the plant. Another bond issue may occur later.

Homes in the Villages of Southern Oaks along with commercial and apartment projects caused the need to increase sewage treatment capacity.
At one point, growth was outpacing the city’s wastewater capacity so a temporary hold was placed on some projects.
Commissioners also approved $5.7 million in payments for the project at Monday’s meeting, including $2.6 million to CPH Engineering for contract administration and $3.2 million for construction.
