A golfer was hospitalized after a scary ride in a golf cart at a course in The Villages.
Emergency personnel responded at about 9:15 a.m. Saturday to the RedFish Run Executive Golf Course after the golfer suffered an apparent medical episode.
The golf cart went speeding down the fairway at Hole #4 and appeared to be out of control, according to a witness. Three golfers were chasing the golf cart as it plowed through a long sand trap and launched over the three-foot lip. The golf cart went airborne for about 8 feet. The sole occupant of the golf cart was ejected upon landing. The empty golf cart traveled on for another 80 feet, coming to rest against another golf cart by the restroom.
The golfer was transported by ambulance to UF Health-Spanish Plaines Hospital, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
