A 62-year-old Ocala motorcyclist was killed early Monday morning after a pickup truck driven by a Summerfield man pulled into his path in Marion County.

The fatal crash occurred at 5:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 475 and Southeast 178th Street, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 71-year-old Summerfield man was driving a pickup truck westbound on Southeast 178th Street and had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection. At the same time, the 62-year-old motorcyclist was traveling southbound on County Road 475.

According to the report, the driver of the pickup truck initiated a wide right turn onto County Road 475, pulling directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The front of the motorcycle struck the left front of the pickup truck, throwing the rider from the bike.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the collision.
