Early birds were out in force Wednesday morning for the opening of the new Walmart on County Road 466 in Lady Lake.
People brought chairs and lined up long before the official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Many were eager for the giveaways Walmart was offering for its very first customers at the new store, which is the retail anchor of the new Hammock Oaks development.
Plenty of people were also eager to see University of Florida football legend Steve Spurrier, who won the Heisman Trophy as a player and later returned to coach the Gators for more than a decade.
