A 25-year-old man from Mexico was arrested after a police officer caught him speeding in The Villages.
Victor M. Contreras Vilchis, who lists a Summerfield address, was at the wheel of a red Ford F-150 at about 9:50 p.m. Monday, when he was pulled over near the entrance to the Village of McClure.

According to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department, an officer utilizing radar caught the pickup truck traveling 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the officer initiated a traffic stop and asked for his driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance, Contreras Vilchis admitted he did not possess a license and handed the officer a Mexican passport for identification.
A background check revealed that Contreras Vilchis has never been issued a driver’s license in Florida or any other U.S. jurisdiction, despite telling the officer he has been living in the state for approximately four years. The records check also showed he had a prior conviction for driving without a license just last month in May.
Contreras Vilchis was issued a written warning for the speeding violation and arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
