
Wilfred J. Gentes Jr., 81, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. He was a father, a husband, a friend, a mentor, a sportsman, and a coach.
Willie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris D. Gentes; his sister, Joan Slocum; his mother, Lillian K. Gentes; and his father, Wilfred J. Gentes Sr.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey J. Gentes and his wife Vivianne Farmer, of Waterbury Center, Vermont, as well as extended family, lifelong friends, and many others whose lives he touched.
Born on October 3, 1944, in Adams, Massachusetts, Willie lived a life marked by dedication, faith, service, and a deep love for family and friends. He was a graduate of Rice Memorial High School in 1965, where he met the love of his life, Doris. The two were married in June 1966 and shared more than five decades together before Doris’s passing in 2017. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, partnership, and devotion.
Willie proudly served in the Vermont Air National Guard during the early 1970s as a jet engine mechanic, maintaining F-102 Delta Dagger interceptor aircraft. He took great pride in serving his country and in the precision and craftsmanship his work demanded.
For 43 years, Willie worked at the G.S. Blodgett Oven Company, retiring in 2008. Known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and leadership, he earned the admiration of coworkers and friends alike. He concluded his career as Head of Quality, a position that reflected his expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence.
A passionate outdoorsman, Willie also found great enjoyment in fishing, particularly for walleye, salmon and lake trout on Lake Champlain. Whether trolling a line with family and friends or recounting memorable days on the water, he cherished the experiences and friendships that came with the sport.
Family was at the center of Willie’s life. He will be remembered for his kindness, dependability, and generous spirit. He lived by the values of honesty, loyalty, and hard work, setting an example for those around him. His stories, guidance, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Christian burial will take place on July 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Resurrection Park Cemetery, located at 200 Hinesburg Rd, South Burlington, VT. Family and friends are invited to attend as they celebrate Willie’s life and honor his memory and faith.
