A 64-year-old Webster man escaped with only minor injuries after a three-vehicle collision in Hillsborough County that claimed the lives of two other drivers.

A Subaru SUV was traveling southbound on State Road 39 when the driver attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Subaru SUV entered into the path of a northbound Chrysler minivan, resulting in a head-on collision.

The force of the impact caused one or both vehicles to rotate, leading them to strike a Ford F-250 pickup truck that was towing a horse trailer behind the Subaru. The Ford, driven by the 64-year-old Webster man, was caught in the chain reaction before the other vehicles departed the roadway and came to a final rest.

Both the driver of the Subaru and the driver of the Chrysler—both identified by authorities only as adult males—suffered fatal injuries. One died at the scene, while the other was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.

The Webster man was evaluated at the scene for his injuries and was not transported.
