To the Editor:

I attended Gov. DeSantis’ unveiling of the statue of Abraham Lincoln on Tuesday at Eastport.

Many of us in the crowd were speaking afterward about how noticeably short the statue appears to be. Abraham Lincoln was our tallest president at 6 feet 4 inches, and this statue makes him appear to be no more than 5 feet 7 inches—almost a foot shorter than he was in real life.

I’m all for erecting statues of American heroes like President Lincoln, but if we aren’t going to get the basics of their likeness correct, can we start a petition to rename them? If so, I would like to submit a few names for this statue: Executive Golf Abe, Four Score and Seven Inches, and Leastport Lincoln!
