A Villager was arrested on a battery charge after a domestic brawl that was reportedly sparked by an argument over her drinking.
Carolyn Jean Skinner, 61, was taken into custody Thursday night by deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies had been dispatched to a local residence—the exact location of which was redacted from the arrest report—in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a male victim who said he and Skinner had gotten into a verbal argument regarding her “having a drinking problem.” The victim stated that the argument grew worse as it continued.
As the dispute escalated, the Chicago native became agitated and aggressive, according to the arrest report. The victim told deputies that Skinner kicked him twice, striking him in the chest and stomach. She then pushed him and punched him on the left side of his face with a closed fist.
While speaking with Skinner, a deputy noted she appeared to be intoxicated and had the strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath. Following the investigation, she was deemed the primary aggressor.
Skinner was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $50 bond.
