A late-night drive in his golf cart has convinced a local official that reflective pavement markers can be extremely helpful to Villagers navigating the multi-modal paths in their golf carts.

Community Development District 1 Board Chairman Rocky Hyder described an after-dark drive home from Brownwood Paddock Square during Friday’s meeting at Savannah Center.

“When I got into District 5, you could see exactly where you were going. The RPMs lit it up like a Christmas tree,” Hyder said.

His board has budgeted a few thousand dollars for the 2026-27 fiscal year to put down RPMs on its section of the multi-modal path. Hyder was previously in favor of adding the markers, but indicated that his recent late-night drive confirmed his stance on the added safety benefits of the reflectors.

Community Development District 5 made the bold decision last year to move ahead with RPMs and took a lot of heat. However, more and more boards are softening their stance and opting to follow suit.
